Santo Domingo continues with a clear tourist growth due to an increase in hotel capacity. Similarly, the city continues to consolidate itself as a tourist, cultural, gastronomic and entertainment destination, with new interventions in monuments and important events that have recently taken place which help boost this type of tourism.
The opening of 5 new hotels that would provide approximately one thousand new rooms is expected for the next few years. These new hotels would be located in the Central Polygon, in on some of the most important avenues of this urban center.

In 2015 the president of the Velutini Group, Luis Emilio Velutini, revealed that a team of the Marriott chain was evaluating the construction of 220 rooms for the expansion of the JW Marriott Santo Domingo hotel. Originally planned as a 30-story mixed-use building that would accommodate the expansion of the hotel had been proposed, but according to new information this has varied and now the construction of 3 new towers is contemplated. At the moment, it has been observed that excavation has begun next to Blue Mall.
Another recently announced project that will include a hotel that the hotel chain that will operate it is not yet known is the new development ‘Piantini District’ of Constructora Aybar and Contemega. This will be located on Ave. Gustavo Mejía Ricart very close to Blue Mall and will also have residential units of 35 to 110 m2, offices and gastronomic area.
Another hotel project in one of the most important avenues of the Central Polygon could be being announced soon. This new project would bring a new hotel chain to the city.
The last hotel built in Santo Domingo is the 145-room Homewoood Suites by Hilton, which is located on Winston Churchill Avenue. This welcomes guests with a beautiful view of the city from the Sky lobby located on the 12th floor.
